Nurse Education in Asthma Treatment (NEAT) Courses

The NEAT course is developed by Asthma New Zealand to provide updates about asthma management to health professionals.

Pharmacy industry is growing at a fast pace and new asthma medications are becoming available. A huge variety of different medicine for asthma requires constant revision of the medical literature. To understand the mechanism of action, side effects, dosages, and proper techniques to take medication demands long hours of studying from health professionals. Asthma New Zealand offers comprehensive education from our expert nurses about asthma medications available on the market.


The NEAT course covers important aspects related to asthma such as causes of asthma, pathophysiology, triggers, diagnostic criteria, management and importance of asthma education. Every student will be instructed on how to demonstrate to the patient inhaler techniques of different devices. Our expert nurses explain the importance of using spacers, peak flow meters, and individual management plans. Asthma nurse educators share their experience, which they gained during many years of work with asthma patients.

  In summary, from the NEAT course you will learn:
  • What is asthma?
  • How to control asthma symptoms?
  • Which asthma medications are available?
  • How to educate the patient about asthma?
